Submissions to Multiples close in

EXHIBIT Closed on June 16th 2015

Juror: Chris Kovacs

Juror's Choice: "Superhero in Training" Shannon Wilkinson from Las Vegas, NV USA

Black & white photography is a timeless art; always relevant, always contemporary despite being historically ancient.

Photographer Robert Frank states,

Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.

Darkroom Gallery is calling for works that excel within these monochromatic constraints. The absence of color adds a sort of purity to images, shows the bones of a composition without the chaff.

The Darkroom Gallery Difference

It allows for the photographer top get creative within a variance of grays, whites, blacks and sepias - abstraction is bred within restraint.

Whether you are a darkroom purist or a Photoshop guru, show us your love for hue-less images.  We want to see your best black and white or alternative process photographs. Pay tribute to the origins of photography.

Juror's Statement:

I wish to thank everyone who entered the “Black and White” competition. I am honoured to have been asked to Juror this event. It was both a joy and a challenge to judge the submissions as there were a number of amazing images which made it very difficult to narrow down the finalists. Every juror has their own unique eye when it comes to viewing submissions. I personally try to keep it simple. I look for the usual things such as lighting, composition, form, curves, lines, technical excellence, etc… However, the most important thing for me is my first impression of the image. How does the image make me feel? Does it convey some kind of emotion or story? These are the same criteria I follow when selecting images from submissions to publish in Adore Noir magazine.

Juror’s Choice: Superhero In Training by: Shannon Wilkinson
The image is remarkable, it clearly evokes a sense of excitement, joy and nostalgia. I was able to connect with the subject immediately, which was largely due to the composition, there was nothing in the image that did not need to be there to get the story across. The mid air shot, the smile on his face, his Flash boots and Captain America shirt are all perfect details that compliment the overall feel of the image. Great work!

Honorable Mentions
1. Corporate Landscape at Night by: Daniel Farnum
2. High Bar by: Denis Sivack

Again, all of the submissions were excellent! And I wish everyone nothing but the best in their future endeavours. Congratulations to all of the finalists.

Best wishes,

Chris Kovacs ,
